Twine confirms traffic drop on ReadWriteWeb and spins it

Spin It!

ReadWriteWeb just wrote about my last post and relayed Twine’s response, which in a nutshell is that they saw a 20-25% traffic drop but that it doesn’t matter because they are all focused on version 2.0 which will free their traffic acquisition model from its dependence on Google rankings. Couple of immediate comments (also see comments on RWW site): Compete.com shows a 85%-90% drop, and so does Quantcast. They tend to be reliable in quantifying % changes and even Twine has endorsed them in the past. Twine has a huge incentive in downplaying this, since a drop of the scale Compete.com shows could lead to a withdrawal of investors’ support. So, until I see actual proofs, my assumption is that the 20-25% drop claim is a misrepresentation. (more…)

Are You into Growth or Lifestyle? Building on Great RWW Post

June 9th, 2009 by Greg Boutin

A great post 3 days ago by ReadWriteWeb COO Bernard Lunn on 10 Things to Be Clear About Before You Start a Company. I had the chance to meet Bernard last month at the Web 3.0 conference when we had dinner with a group of Web 3.0 business pioneers (including Alex Iskold of AdaptiveBlue and Andraz Tori of Zemanta). One of the many ideas that intrigued me in his post is that of checking whether you’re made to grow a lifestyle business, or to pursue a growth company. The reason it caught my attention is that lately I met a lot of tech entrepreneurs who started a business, acquired a few clients and grew revenues, and at that point started to play with the idea that they may need to raise money — and yet are far from clear on what changes this pathway will require from them and their business. New Review by ReadWriteWeb of our Series Of Posts on Web 3.0, the Semantic Web, Linked Data and Data Structuring Technologies

May 14th, 2009 by Greg Boutin

Richard MacManus, Founder and Editor of ReadWriteWeb, has just published a review of my last series of posts: it is called Understanding the New Web Era: Web 3.0, Linked Data, Semantic Web, also available through the NY Times, and nicely summarizes and complements my analysis with additional thoughts and examples. I greatly recommend the read, and thank Richard for taking the time. I hope to see interesting discussions emerge from it on RWW's site, on this blog, and at the imminent Web 3.0 and Semantic Technologies conferences.
